LiveCast HeavyMeta Solution Supports New Sony XDCAM Technology to Deliver End-to-End Metadata and Live Video Delivery Platform for 3G/4G Networks

NAB – Las Vegas, NV – April 13, 2010 – LiveCast, leader in live mobile video streaming solutions, is working with Sony to help bring time saving end-to-end metadata workflow to broadcasters. At the NAB show this week, LiveCast will unveil its “HeavyMeta” solution that uniquely provides an automated system for processing, exploiting and disseminating metadata information throughout a video production workflow, from assignment to editing to broadcast. LiveCast HeavyMeta solution is compatible with Sony’s new XM Pilot technology, and is based on industry standard XML metadata schema enabling an optimized and continuous metadata flow. The solution is natively supported on Sony XDCAM camcorders.

"Broadcasting is all about scooping the competition, which leaves no extra time for re-entering critical metadata each step in the workflow,” says William Mutual, LiveCast CEO. “We’ve developed the first system that truly provides an efficient metadata workflow for broadcasters. And by integrating the solution into with our LiveCast live mobile video streaming platform for 3G/4G, we can enable stories to get on air faster than ever before."

Sony’s XM Pilot technology is designed to streamline an XDCAM metadata workflow, facilitate auto ingest of video content, and enable easy searching and previewing of related data (based on shooting date, time, place, notes etc.) and proxy AV data when archived.

"We are focused on continually enhancing the total XDCAM workflow,” said Kaori Uno, workflow manager, Sony Electronics’ Solutions Group. “The ability of LiveCast’s HeavyMeta solution to support XM Pilot will bring the benefits of an enhanced metadata workflow and the ability to do live streaming to a wider range of users."

How it works

LiveCast HeavyMeta enables producers in the TV studio to send new assignments directly to camera Sony XDCAM PDW-700 and PDW-F800 camcorders in the field, which means the camera crew is shooting the breaking story, not re-entering critical metadata. A producer simply clicks ‘send’ on an Outlook task bar and the crew’s mobile phone receives the message with the new assignment. LiveCast HeavyMeta mobile applications will instantly auto synch metadata between the phone and camera over Wi-Fi.

Once the recording begins, LiveCast HeavyMeta provides a preview video window on the phone, along with access to pre-defined tags and categories that make it easy to mark-up video with essence data on-the-fly. Eliminating the need to wait until video shooting is complete.

Where camera crews have access to a high-speed data networks like 4G, LiveCast HeavyMeta will transmit a high-quality live stream from the Sony XDCam PDW-700 directly to the TV studio for viewing and SDI output, using LiveCast’s Lightning SDI application. If additional shots are needed to get the right story, a producer can tell the crew when they’re already at the scene. When recording on the camera stops, the live preview stream is stored on a secure server, immediately available for on-demand playback. All metadata is preserved and displayed alongside the live stream, and stored with archived file.

LiveCast and Sony representatives will be conducting demonstrations of the new LiveCast HeavyMeta solution at NAB, April 12-15, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV (Booth # C11001). To schedule a demo on-site please contact Jennifer Blome at jb@livecast.com or +1 604-844-2263 ext 2#.
