LiveCast Harnesses Power of Marvell® PXA32x Processor for Optimized Live Video livecasting on Mobile Devices

Marvell's 624MHz PXA32x processor enables high quality, real-time video encoding and streaming from consumer phones

Vancouver, November 30, 2006 -- LiveCast, a developer of innovative mobile software and automated video delivery technologies, today announced an optimized version of its award winning live video livecasting application, LiveCast, for the Marvell PXA32x processor family.

LiveCast has delivered many industry firsts, including the world's first live livecasting solution from a mobile device to a global audience over wireless networks (EV-DO, HSPDA, WiFi, WiMax, DVB-H), and the first to deliver an automated "do-it-yourself" video streaming network. LiveCast remains committed to pushing the edge of what mobile phones can deliver for multimedia applications in terms of video quality, features and ease-of-use. LiveCast is working closely with Marvell to ensure it takes full advantage of accelerated technology advancements in mobile processors.

LiveCast further empowers users to:

  • Instantly notify viewers via SMS, email or instant messaging
  • Single button publishing of videos to favorite Web communities, video sharing sites or blogs
  • Automatic geo-tagging of video streams with GPS data, allowing viewers to track a transmission on a map
  • Add tags and other video information to help categorize and search for videos

"Real-time video encoding represents the ultimate challenge for a mobile processor, and the incredible power of the Marvell PXA32x has allowed us achieve a quantum leap forward in video quality enablement for live broadcasting from a mobile phone" said William Mutual, LiveCast CEO.

LiveCast now takes full advantage of the Marvell PXA32x accelerated processing power by optimizing Windows Media 9 encoding of live video streams. This optimization results in a much higher quality stream transmitted from LiveCast during user-generated mobile broadcasts.

"We selected LiveCast as a launch partner for the PXA32x because its mobile livecasting technology is the kind of application that users are now expecting to see on the latest mobile devices," said Gary Forni, Director of Platform Enabling, Marvell Cellular & Handheld Group. "It's this kind of compelling application, with its needs for higher processing power, that will drive the deployment of Marvell's PXA3x application processor technology in mobile devices."

LiveCast sits at the forefront of converging developments in wireless and entertainment, where mobile phones are gaining high-end cameras and powerful processors, and where everyday people are creating and sharing their own content.
